What a delightful read and omgeeee! I love the baking site for the frosting recipe. I book marked it and will certainly spend some time on it. If you haven't seen thesouthernladycooks.com website, that's one of my favorite recipe go-tos. :)
Finally finished your book, Strapped and was DELIGHTED to see my review of The Trailer Park Rules! I felt honored. Thank you for that.
My daughter told me about the Sally's site -- she helped me make that frosting. It's so good. It turned a plain white cake into something very special. Also really notable from that site is her chocolate cake. I've pretty much given up eating sweets, but if I need to really impress someone with the absolute best chocolate cake ever, this is the one: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/triple-chocolate-layer-cake/
Gotta tell you.... I made that cake and holy cow! A little more fuss, for sure, but WELL worth the effort. Not a frosting fan but this frosty is the bomb too. Her other recipes look fantastic too and I look forward to making some more of her treats.
You don’t clean the house or file the paperwork. You certainly don’t watch any tv or scroll on your phone. You don’t do other things, because you need this break from all the fucking shit. You need peace.
Reading this was an absolute delight! My eyeballs eagerly kept moving along as my face brightened, my mouth smiled, and giggles and chuckles escaped. An absolute treasure of a brief escape from everything else (see: "consider moving abroad").
We were working on getting rid of creeping bellflower, an invasive species native to Europe and Asia. It’s hardy with rhizomes and gets tangled in tree roots. Why oh why did it come here? Turns out the leaves and tubers are edible. Not that they’re tasty…so much for foraging in the yard.
I love violets, I wish I had some in my yard. Instead, I have millions of orange and yellow nasturtiums- also edible but alas, not fragrant.

I want to live next door to Sally so I can taste all her baked goods :)
I usually have a nice crop of violets in my yard, I just might have to try this. The syrup looks amazing.
It was quite a bit of work. This year I plan to just candy them instead. I also plan to freeze some of them in ice cubes for pretty summer drinks.
We also pick violets and freeze them in ice cubes. My husband is a sucker for any edible flower, and a frozen hint of spring in a bevvie is a delight.
Waiting for violets, as I live north of you.
That's a beautiful idea. I've seen it done with pansies, too. Imagine either in a glass of lemonade -- simply gorgeous!
This post is very dreamy, but ... who has time?
It sounds very lovely. I hope that all turned out delicious!

I have a bunch of violets in my yard! I have always thought of using them to make tea. But I like the idea of violet syrup better!
Reading this was very meditative. Thank you for the vicarious tastiness and peace!
What a great read! I could do with a good swig of violet syrup right about now :)

Oh gosh, thank you! You made my day.
Violet cake!! How cool!!
You are so cool! Lucky friends !
