In the democracy of ancient Athens, many public offices were filled by lot — how we now often assign jury duty. Surely, such a system will have its failings, but it bespeaks an attitude about civic equality and competence.
Athenian officials were required to submit an accounting of their official service too.
It is arguable at least that a “random assignment” (from a properly vetted “pool” of candidates) would have produced a more competent cabinet than DJT’s nominations.
To be fair, scooping up all the people in a dive bar at 1 a.m. would have likely yielded a better cabinet. Certainly a more sober secretary of defense.
He may well have been on there. We should probably all check. Anybody might have been invited. Maybe there was a "VP" that they all thought was the vice president but was actually Vladamir Putin.
