This is an interesting perspective and I have always had days with no funds in hand. I have so many that I want to become a paid subscriber on. I can add a few every month. Subscribers fund my writing, and I invest that forward to those I read.
There's more than one way to "invest" in a writer you like -- just showing up, making thoughtful comments that add to the conversation and sharing with friends off this platform if you think they'd appreciate it are all good and free ways to extend a writer's reach. Some people prefer to give a few bucks via Ko-fi or another tipping service instead of committing to a subscription, too. It all helps!
Keep on keeping on! Your pieces are extremely valuable to me, particularly at this very time in history, when America is being looted before our very eyes. Damn right the presidency was purchased by Musk and many many others. Now all those corrupt buttsuckers are being appointed to important positions in government.
I'm also noticing more junk fees now (rather than less like we were supposed to with Biden). Consumer prices increasing, until the economy collapses.
I think you are right in the thick of things with your writing. It is all 100% true. I tell others about you frequently.
Something I learned on my journey to bestseller is that they don't count gifted and comped subscribers. Only REAL paid ones contribute to the 100 paid subs you need for the coveted checkmark.
I suppose I understand why. Anyone could comp 100 people to get the checkmark.
I have no idea what the number is... I had assumed that you didn't get any kind of check or other recognition for free subscribers. I currently have over 850 and all my stuff is free as well. And I've never even gotten an email or anything saying "well done" or anything like that
I seem to remember reading a post by one of the people doing paid subs about getting some kind of award or recognition for reaching some number, but it was way higher than 800
Well, I am up to 108 paid this morning. Have 3K-plus free which makes me happy. I don’t know if Substack’s magic number of paid subscribers is. Maybe they do also take your free subs into consideration. I just want to get my message out and I’m always looking for ways to do that.
I really appreciate your work, Michelle. Do you think there might be another way - like your readers contacting Substack to insist “Give Untrickled by Michelle Teheux Bestseller Status”? Please let us know if something like that would help.
I am positive that the powers that be don't even know or care that I exist, and there are much bigger problems in the world that require attention -- like flooding our elected representatives with calls asking them to resist. So it's probably more productive just to share pieces in your social media and with like-minded friends. But thank you for your kind words. :)
Thank you for your work - always appreciate the stories you bring to our attention and the issues you raise.
Thank you. I appreciate you.
You rock, Michelle. I bought both books and am reading Strapped now. I asked my public library to buy your books, and it did. Keep writing!
Oh, THANK YOU! Thank your librarian for me, too :)

Thank you, Cecelia! We all have to support each other these days.
