Back in the 90s, it wasn't hedge funds but media conglomerates that gobbled up the local papers (and radio & TV stations). But they used the same playbook. Strip it to the bone and shut it down when there's not a drop of blood left in the turnip.
The hedge funds picked up the corpses left behind and sucked the bones clean.
