moved to Texas could not afford the East coast anymore. You are either really rich, or poor. the middle class is dying in the east coast. Now prices are going up through the roof in my little town. I worked my whole life to be able to pay for my insurance premiums, but I am better off than some.
One option might be to sell your house since it's wildly appreciated and buy a place in an area like mine -- you could buy a nice and inexpensive (to you) house with enough profits leftover to live on.
As I get older, healthcare for maintenance is the biggest concern. Selling of the house is a no go it’s free and clear, and I already am in an area that is outside city limits. Everything is going up and even if I were to sell, the market right now is too hot to purchase, and nothing around 200,000. Do I wish I could have a garden, less deer, and not in an ongoing drought, yup. But there are going to be trade offs. That happens everyday for many of us. Not to be a downer.
I was shocked it went for so much. I absolutely adore this house, though, and was slightly acquainted with the former owners. My husband and I bought a used bed from the sellers a year ago. I walk my dogs by this gorgeous house nearly every day. I wouldn't even be able to afford the property taxes.
That house would be 1.5m in my neighborhood

Mine too! Marin County, California!

Probably over $2 million in mine.
By most comparative measures, eg GDP/capita, the US is not the richest country in the world.
